STREET THEATRE FESTIVALS IN POLAND

What is the phenomenon of street theater in Poland as art goes out to the audience? How did a street theaters became an expression of democratic and freedom changes in Poland?

These issues are the subject of a meeting with artists and directors of the two most important and oldest street theater festivals in Poland. The discussion will be illustrated with examples of the most interesting artistic projects presented over the years as part of street art festivals in Poland. The interview will be attended by:

Jerzy Zoń – founder and director of the International Festival of Street Theaters Ulica – Street (since 1988 in Krakow), in the 1990s Director of the Street Theater Festival in Jelenia Góra, scriptwriter and director of outdoor and indoor performances, co-founder and director of the Teatr KTO, whose performances have been attended by more than 3,000,000 people in Poland and around the world – in over 250 cities in over 40 countries on 5 continents.

Dariusz Jarosiński – director of the International Street Art Festival “Sztuka Ulicy” (since 1993 in Warsaw), President of “Stowarzyszenie Unia Teatrów Plenerowych i Organizatorów Wydarzeń Plenerowych” (Union of Open-Air Theaters and Organizers of Outdoor Events), actor, director e.g. Teatr Scena 96.

The online meeting will be held as part of the “Art of Freedom. Theater and Performative Activities in Public Spaces in Poland” series of seminars, the partner and co-organizer of which is the State Pedagogical University in Gori, Georgia.
